The Futronix PFX System

The PF-X architectural scene dimmer system is the latest generation of professional all-digital dimmers from Futronix. The PF-X is one of the most sophisticated and cost effective high-end dimming systems available. Its design means that it is easy to specify, install and commission.

As many PF-X's as needed can be used to build up systems of unlimited size. Built around a range of standard size chassis, each chassis has its own intelligence and comes supplied with 6, 8, 12, 16 or 32 channels for dimming. The PF-X can be used to form a system from just few channels to several thousand. The system is designed to be very flexible with all parameters being set up from a Remote Control handset, PC laptop or LCD touch screen.

The inherent flexibility of the PF-X system means that it is an easy system to specify. No matter how complex the customer's requirements are, the system can be configured to meet their needs. Each PF-X dimmer contains the latest generation 16-bit controller and hard-fired digital dimmer circuits. The fade resolution is 1024 levels for all fade and cross-fade functions. The digital nature of the PF-X means that the system is more reliable, more accurate and quieter than ordinary dimmers.

The end-user interacts with the PFX dimming system via switch panels flush mounted in the wall. These switch panels communicate the wishes of the user to the PFX.

The switch plates are available in an attractive range of finishes to suit all tastes and applications. These plates are used throughout the whole Futronix range and allow total integration both in terms of aesthetics and functionality. The standard finishes are available in white, brass, stainless steel or antique. Custom finishes can be made to order.

Switch panels

Any switch panel can be set to control any zone, other zones or act as a master to them all. The PF-X communicates with the switch panels via a common 4 core data cable. Some switch panels have built-in displays and a remote control receiver which will work up to distances of 40 feet. The system can be programmed or operated from any switch panel using the infra-red remote control.

Windows Software

The programming/operating software is designed to run under Microsoft Windows® using the built in RS485 interface. Within the software any circuit can be set as any physical channel and programmed to be on any phase, in any zone or set as a switching or dimming channel. On each scene the circuits can be programmed, temporarily re-adjusted, modified, set for on/off switching and block downloaded/uploaded.

Dimmer Performance

The PFX features include: RS485 network, local bus for switch panels, 3-phase dimming, multi-zoning, partitioned conference room facility, occupancy detection and optional timer.

The individual circuits can be programmed to operate on a variety of different dimming curves. Each channel can also be set to be a switching only (non-dimming) circuits.

The efficiency of each dimmer is better than 98%. The heat sinks keep the internal temperature rise to less than 25Co above the ambient temperature.

Audible noise from a 16 channel 10A dimmer fully loaded at 50% is less than 30db @ 1m.
